EDITOR’S NOTE

Thank you to LION-PARKSON FOUNDATION (LPF) for inviting me for the second time (read my previous preview for Lion Parkson Run HERE) to the Press Conference for the 3rd Lion Parkson Run at Lion Group HQ in Kuala Lumpur on 15 Mar 2018.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This FEEL GOOD RUN promises to be an enjoyable occasion for avid runners, as well as for the whole FAMILY.

Meanwhile, you will automatically HELP raise funds for disadvantaged children’s EDUCATION and to continue the RENOVATION works of a children shelter home for mentally and physically handicapped children. A couple of years ago, I did visit this shelter home in Bangi, and I can honestly say that I was touched by the LOVING CARE the abandoned and disabled children were receiving from the EXTRAORDINARY care-givers team.

Dragon Back Run 2018 – Review by Happy Runner

Dragon Back Run 2018 – Review by Happy Runner

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Editor’s Note

This my 3rd Dragon Run, but unlike previous occasions, the race venue is now at SETIA ALAM instead of Jalan Paip, Meru, and the maximum distance has increased to 30K from the previous year’s 25k.

Should I be worried about this extra 5km?

Has the route changed significantly?

What makes this event outstanding?

In this review, I share my latest running battle against an infamous hilly route which can turn grown men’s legs into jelly if you get too close to the unforgiving dragon….

Suicide Mission

FB_IMG_1520424138896

With my last running event being only a 10km run in January 2018, I knew it would be a difficult task to even make it to the finish line in one piece! However, I trusted my running experience and instincts enough to give it a go because I was keen to see the new route and hopefully, I could use this event to jumpstart my running legs. Would I live to regret my decision?

New Shoes

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As though, the absence of adequate training and running mileage weren’t bad enough, I broke another cardinal sin of running which was to wear my brand new ASICS GEL NIMBUS 20 and new ASICS long running tights without testing or breaking them in first. Did I purposely set myself to fail? Or was I taunting the bad tempered Dragon with my unusually disrespectful actions? Either way, I was about to swim in uncharted waters, and it took all my mental strength to keep my cool, and all this, even before the race has started!

Keeping Positive

At the start line, I was silently consoling myself with positive remarks such as, “At least you managed to drag your heavy ass to the start line on time, Gus! The worst that can happen is that I will sweat and burn calories. Let’s take it one kilometre at a time.”

Then, after the race had started, I told myself, “let’s treat it like a half marathon with an initial 9k warm up” which is an old running trick to break long distances into shorter, reachable ones.

My pace was frustratingly slow, and most of the 500 30k runners easily passed me in the morning darkness. Nevertheless, I knew that I must be very patient if I wanted to outlast this mammoth dragon.

So, there I was plodding along like a geriatric and lost in my own thoughts. I didn’t even want to chat with any other runners because I was trying to save every breath like it was my last. Now, that’s the real definition of being “kiasu”!

Same Dragon

I was happy to see that the new route still passed all the major rolling hills, and the only big difference was the extra 5k at the beginning and the end. Being familiar with this wily old dragon, I could visualise my journey back to the finish line which helped eased my mind.

Sore Feet

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The first 20k went as well as I could expect. I was not tired and there were no signs of cramps. Then right after enjoying a cold and refreshing Endurance Electrolytes drink at the N8 Sports Nutrition tent, my feet felt sore as hell. I could barely run, and even walking was painful. Serves me right for not training enough and using brand new shoes!

Survival Mode

With 10km remaining and still facing the fiercest rolling hills at Bukit Cahaya, I was struggling like a helpless bird flapping its broken wings. I had to dig deep just to keep moving. I was mentally kicking myself through the worse of the hills.

Head Down

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Although the last 3k was like hell on earth, I was stubbornly refusing the numerous offers of free rides from the marshals on passing motorbikes. I didn’t care or judge those other struggling runners who caved in and got a lift to the finish line. No matter how desperate my situation, I knew that I could cross the finish line on my own two, be it very sore, legs.

Finish Together

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

With 1000 metre to the finish line, I asked 3 ladies, Wan Bun, Stephanie and Suriani to finish this race together with me. After such an epic solo run, it was nice to celebrate the ending with my new friends over a hot bowl of sweet bean curds and patting each other’s backs for slaying the dragons within us…at least for another year.

Video FLASHBACK

Take Note

  • The new route still incorporates all of the signature rolling hills – thankfully!
  • Of course, the extra 5km increases the route’s difficulty level, but on the plus side, it makes for a great Long Slow Distance (LSD) run.
  • I would never recommend new runners to tackle long distance without proper running mileage and training first.
  • Remember to always break in new running shoes and attire before race day.
  • Apart from the soreness in the soles of my feet which I attribute to my lack of proper muscle conditioning, I experienced no toe-jamming or foot swelling because the ASICS GEL NIMBUS 20 fitting and light materials worked great. I will wait until I try it out on my next Full Marathon before I give it a definite rating.
  • This was my first time wearing ankle length running tights made by ASICS. It was so comfortable and there were no signs of sweat after the race. Like my new ASICS running shoes, I will reserve my final verdict on these ASICS long running tights until after wearing it for my next Full Marathon.

Lunar New Year Run 2018 – Review by Happy Runner

Lunar New Year Run 2018 – Review by Happy Runner
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Editor’s Note

Every year, this Family Fun Run is a JOYFUL pre-celebration of the Chinese New Year, and therefore, the AUSPICIOUS colour red and the ZODIAC SIGN for 2018, the Dog, were the main Event theme colours and mascot respectively.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There was a real festival spirit in the air as 5,000 runners and families with children, dressed in vibrant red colours, descended upon the Setia Alam Urban Park for a chillout Sunday run.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The situation reminded me of how fortunate Malaysians are to be able to live in a harmonious multi-ethnic country where we respect and appreciate our different backgrounds. In fact, festivals themed runs LIKE THIS ONE, are a great opportunity to participate in each other’s culture and tradition, and in turn, promote deeper understanding and better relationships between the various races, just like our hugely popular Open House tradition during Hari Raya, CNY and Deepavali.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In the ensuing photos, you will see mostly Chinese runners; and I couldn’t recall seeing any Malays (except for the RELA VOLUNTEERS!), but I did see a couple of Indian runners during the run. Nevertheless, as an independent running blogger, it’s important for me to cover all kinds of running events which reflects the full “colour” spectrum of our society without restricting myself only to those events which favour my personal beliefs – JUST as long as I am invited and welcomed there.

Malaysia’s Muhaizar Smashes Multiple Records In Tokyo Marathon 2018 🏅🏅

Malaysia’s Muhaizar Smashes Multiple Records In Tokyo Marathon 2018 🏅🏅

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Breaking News!

I could almost hear the loud cheers from all the running fans, tracking bib no. A8108 on their smartphones, as Muhaizar crosses the finish line with a hot time (to be confirmed) of 2:27:25!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Previous FASTEST TIME

Barely 6 months ago, Gurun-born Muhaizar who is based in Sungai Udang, Melaka clocked 2:31.52 for his third placing in the 42km run – which ended Malaysia’s 44-year wait for a medal in men’s marathon after M. Solaimuthu’s bronze in 1973 in Singapore.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

🇲🇾 The BEST Marathoner 🏃💨

At the elite level, shaving seconds let alone minutes off the finish times takes so much training, discipline, talent, belief and support. Muhaizar’s Tokyo Marathon finish time is an amazing sporting achievement because he has slashed almost 3 minutes from his previous best which was previously good enough to win SEA Games 2017 bronze.

To top it all, Muhaizar proves that cold weather in Tokyo is not an excuse for runners from hot and humid countries to fail. In fact, in the build up to Tokyo Marathon, Muhaizar trained locally in Cameron Highlands, and his Tokyo trip was sponsored by ASICS Malaysia.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

INSPIRING A Whole Nation

Malaysia runners may not be able to compete against the World’s Best Kenyans, but Muhaizar’s recent multiple record-breaking achievements certainly gives our nation something to cheer about, and moreover, it inspires the youth and community runners to keep on believing in themselves no matter how hard the challenges ahead.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Fun Facts

A. Muhaizar’s Tokyo Marathon 2018 finish time 2:27:25 (unofficial) also broke two SCKLM records :-

  1. His best defending finish time ⏱️ 2:35:55 (2017).
  2. The Previous Fastest Time (Men) : Muniandy Ramadass ⏱️ 2:31:51 (2009).

B. MUSLIM MARATHONERS
Our Tokyo Marathon 2018 Champs, Nik Fakaruddin (Left⬅️New PB/ 2:30:51) and Muhaizar Mohamed (Right➡️New PB/ 2:27:21).
Finding Halal Food in Tokyo is not easy, so after the race, Muhaizar & Nik are replenishing their energy levels with some delightful Turkish dishes.

👏CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU MUHAIZAR, YOU ARE OUR MARATHON HERO & WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU ❤️

NEW BALANCE Run Club Launch by Happy Runner

NEW BALANCE Run Club Launch by Happy Runner

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Editor’s Note

There are many running groups in town, but there are much fewer running clubs and associations. What’s the difference? Running Clubs and Associations must be registered with the Registrar Of Society and they are governed by the ROS Acts and Laws. In contrast, Running Groups are not allowed to collect membership fees, and therefore, their activities are either self-funded and/or funded by sponsors.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For the record, NEW BALANCE run club (NBRC) is a running group which means its activities are fully sponsored by New Balance Malaysia, like their official launch which was held at The Social in Desa Park City where 60 guests and brand ambassadors were treated to a getting-to-know-you session over an English Breakfast.

Running Groups are important focal points for runners to MEET, INTERACT and SHARE their common passion for running, and there’s one group in virtually every neighborhood. If you’re a new runner and looking for a new running group where you will be welcomed with open arms, then you ought to checkout my review below of this refreshing NEW BALANCE run club (NBRC) who plan to EXCITE runners with their forthcoming activities…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Event | NEW BALANCE run club launch

Date | 3rd February 2018

Venue | The Social, Desa Park City

Guests | 60 Runners & Brand Ambassadors

Who Is NBRC?

NBRC is a brand new running group consist of friends of New Balance Malaysia and a handful of Brand Ambassadors & Coaches. Initially, this sounds like any other running group, but after interviewing NBRC Captain Deric Seah, heck, he even got a running stalwart like me excited about NBRC mission and vision!

Anyone who knows Deric, from his successful introduction of Aftershokz “Bone Induction Technology” wireless headphones to Malaysia market, will tell you that Deric is a likeable guy with a creative and dynamic business mind. So, it was no surprise to learn that Deric will bring the same creativity and dynamism on board NBRC, and I am sure it won’t be long before NBRC will find its way into the hearts and minds of runners everywhere.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Deric caught the running bug only last year, and therefore, he is in a great position to know what new runners are looking for in a running group. Helping Captain Deric implement the NBRC mission, are the Technical Coaches and Celebrity/Sports Brand Ambassadors who will diligently MOTIVATE and TRAIN runners to reach their RUNNING GOALS during the upcoming NBRC running sessions, as well as inject some FUN and GLAMOUR into the mix too. No doubt, sponsored goodies will be given away to further entice runners to participate in their running sessions.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What Makes NEW BALANCE run club Different?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

According to Deric, there are 3 new ways which NBRC can help new runners :-

  1. Runners won’t feel intimidated to join NBRC because NEW BALANCE is already a well-known running brand with wide appeal.
  2. NBRC will tie up with professional running coaches and companies (To Be Announced) in order to teach important running skills, and even, transform new runners into Marathoners.
  3. NBRC will not be stuck to one training location, but instead, a different training venue will be selected every 3 months which means more runners from different areas will have the opportunity to join the training sessions at their own convenience and at their preferred locations.

“Where and When can we catch the NBRC bus?”, I hear you ask.

✔️The INAUGURAL TRAINING SESSIONS will be in held at Desa Park City for 3 months from March to May 2018. The training sessions will be conducted TWICE monthly, and all the Brand Ambassadors will meet ONCE-A-MONTH.

✔️COMBINED EFFORTS: At each training venue, NBRC will hookup and collaborate with a particular running group in that locale. The other training venues and running club partners will be announced in due course.

THE FIRST NBRC RUN

The First Warm-up Stretching

On a sunny morning, fitness coach Karen led the warm-up stretching routines on the immaculate grass lawn. All the participants energetically followed Karen’s cues in unison, while I was busy taking snapshots of their contorting, folding, bending and stretching bodies.

Then, we ran 1km once around the scenic pond. Of course, it was a very short run, but more importantly, this marked the activation of the NEW BALANCE run club in Malaysia. If Karen represented the face of NBRC, then Deric was literally their flagbearer.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“We leave no one behind,” Deric announced as he accompanied the last runner who was Coach Eryn’s non-running mother all the way to the finish point. The duo were greeted with a rousing cheer from the group as they completed their round.

One by one, we were introduced to the NBRC Coaches (Karen, Gary, Kochi, Eryn…) and the Brand Ambassadors & Celebrities (Actor Norman Hakim – famous for his role in TV series Gerak Khas- , 2x World Champion Bodybuilder Syarul Azman – https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/other-sport/2017/10/09/syarul-rules-again-asian-champ-retains-world-title-in-freezing-mongolia/ -…).

As soon as we entered Desa Park City, we noticed that there were many weekend runners already running on the wide pedestrian walkways in the pleasant morning air.

IMG-20180203-WA0007

The main park is picturesque and it consisted of a big pond surrounded by neat lawns, young trees, pathways and there is even a running stream. It is like being surrounded by nature, but with all the modern fixtures and facilities conveniently available at the nearby shop building.

IMG-20180203-WA0001

After running one lap around the pond, we adjourned to the verendah at The Social, overlooking the pristine park, for a hearty English Breakfast with the other NBRC Runners.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There were many smiling faces and laughter filled the air, as we got acquainted with each other.

Surprisingly, we all felt like one big family, eventhough this was the first NBRC outing together. I guess it is our common passion for running and pursuing active lifestyle which made interacting with each other effortless. Moreover, much credit must be given to our host for making everyone feel so welcomed, and for a successful launch and activation of the NEWEST running group in Klang Valley.

I am sure that all the guests, like my wife Maryati and I, are looking forward to the next NBRC gathering. However, next time, we can all have a thorough training session together after this wonderful introduction to the NEW BALANCE run club.

Red Devils Vs Merseyside Phoenix EPL LIVE VIEWING Invitation

Red Devils Vs Merseyside Phoenix EPL LIVE VIEWING Invitation

IMG-20180221-WA0001
Editor’s Note

My Team Arsenal is performing way below our usual football standard in the English Premier League (EPL) this season for many reasons.

In fact, Arsenal, as of today, is in 6th position and 7 points behind our bitter London rivals, Spurs. Meantime, Northerners, Manchester City & Manchester United are occupying the top 2 EPL Table spots respectively.

Unless Man City suffers a radical implosion in the remaining 11 matches, it is most likely that Man City will be stylishly declared EPL Champions with several matches to spare.

The really interesting fight is between the 2nd and 5th position football teams (Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea & Tottenham) where only single points separates them. Moneywise, the final top 4 teams will automatically qualify for the highly lucrative Championship League (CL) competition. So, nobody wants to miss the cut or stand to loose big bucks in broadcasting fees paid to CL qualifiers.

So, this leads us to a highly explosive match-up between the red part of Manchester against their worse Merseyside enemy, Liverpool on 10th March 2018. With much pride and earnings laying on the line, I can see both sides smashing each other for the full 90 minutes ++ at Old Trafford, and it will be an entertaining viewing for not only the home and away fans, but also to other team supporters who just love to see either Man Utd and Liverpool drop points.

IMG-20180221-WA0005

If you’re a hardcore Manchester United fan, then you should know that Manchester United Club is inviting their Malaysian supporters to a Live Viewing of the abovementioned football match with the details provided below…

UAK KAFE RESTAURANT – Review by Gus Ghani

UAK KAFE RESTAURANT – Review by Gus Ghani

dav

Happy Anniversary, Darling

My wife Maryati and I decided to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary with a quiet dinner at a relative new restaurant called UAK (Ustaz Abdullah Khairi) Kafe which was opened on November 2017.

Video Clip : My Sweetheart

It was like a blind date because we had no idea what was on the menu, and the only thing that we knew about it was that the restaurant is uniquely built using those huge 20 feet shipping containers. I was attracted to it by this display of ingenuity and furthermore, I liked the idea of recycling materials wherever possible. Whether the  UAK Kafe Owner had the original intention of saving the environment or not, it did bother me, but every little bit of green effort does help to save our planet.

Off The Beaten Track

Again, even BEFORE stepping into the restaurant, I was IMPRESSED by the restaurant’s strategic location which offers lots of FREE parking spaces available, and yet it was only 5 minutes drive from the now defunct Batu Tiga Toll Booth. The restaurant itself is sharing a large and spacious open lot with a Go Kart centre ( Night Go Kart Action! ), racing car academy, premium car restoration and detailing companies, and even a remote control car hobbyist. It was a remarkably quiet spot, considering it was directly overlooking Kuala Lumpur’s busiest Federal Highway.

I am making a deal about this location because it is nice to be able to go somewhere tranquil to WIND-DOWN and ENJOY dinner with your partner and family without the din and chaotic road traffic of the high streets.

Tasteful Decor

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

UAK is located on the first floor of a neat two-storey building boasting a modern design of exterior black container walls and the designer made clever use of glass, wood and industrial metals to give the place a cool and contemporary look. It was as if the owners were successful entrepreneurs who still liked to play with toy cars and go-karts.

Video Clip : First Impressions

When we walked up the solid wooden and metal staircase from the inner courtyard to UAK Kafe, we were pleasantly surprised by its modern furnishings, and the cutaway walls and glass doors made the place feel spacious and airy.

There are 5 distinct dining areas :-

  1. A trendy air-conditioned coffee bar which looked liked the set of the popular US TV series Friends; where you can chill over a dessert of ice cream, banana splits, cheesecake, crème broulé, coffee, tea and freshly made fruit juice drinks. The large windows allows for plenty of natural lighting and views of the Federal Highway and the Go Kart track.
  2. Another air-conditioned dining room suited for private functions.
  3. A open air balcony dining area with great views of the Go Karts speeding round the circuits below.
  4. A covered veranda dining area with 5 bench tables overlooking the iconic Batu Tiga Toll Booth.
  5. My favourite is the centre dining area at the top of the entrance staircase which is next to the open kitchen where you can see the display of fresh ingredients and the chefs cooking the orders. In the middle is a long 15 feet wooden dining table, and on one side is a long countertop with barstools and open views. Apparently, this is where a LIVE BAND plays music every Friday & Saturday nights from 8:30pm to 10:30pm. Sounds cool. Watch Video Clip!

My Favourites Dishes

dav

🍕 I love their killa pepperoni beef pizza with generous toppings of cheese and beef pepperonis, and the pizza crust is the Bomb which is not too thick nor too thin. I could eat that everyday!

🍝 Their Aglio Olio Soft Shell Crab spaghetti is just scrumptious full stop.

🍗 The Chicken Chop with black pepper sauce, fresh coleslaw, and french fries is so tantalising.

dav

🍰 Wow! The cheesecake is sinfully good and its hint of orange flavour with bombastic mango sauce topping gives sent my eyes rolling upwards to heavens.

sdr

🍉 The freshly made watermelon juice has much natural fructose to give you a refreshingly tasty health drink.

Video Clip : Chicken Chop Vs Sirloin

One downer is the garden salad which is over drenched with overly sweet thousands islands dressing. I would much rather prefer a simple Italian dressing: I’m sure the UAK could accommodate my request if I wanted to make changes to the salad dressing.

dav

Wide, Wide West Choices!

The dining menu is very extensive, and there are so many more delectable local, as well as zinger western dishes to choose from, and I can’t wait to try them all in time. On the western front, there are fish-n-chips, beef/chicken lasagna, T-bone steaks, Lamb Chops and “Pay What You Like” for the Soup Of The Day! I haven’t even mentioned the burgers which will delight the kids when washed down with a milkshake.

Local Twists Dishes

There are several interesting dishes which feature giant river prawns prepared with Nasi Lemak, noodles style or even in creamy butter!

There is even Assam Laksa noodles if you want a tangy dish, plus much more on offer which I can’t recall.

Just Try It 😋

IMG_20180209_171750

⭐⭐⭐

What I look for in an eatery is good-tasting, wholesome food of generous portions for reasonable prices with efficient waiters serving all patrons in a clean, cozy and spacious ambience. What more can I ask for!

GO FOR IT! FTKLAA Cross Country 2018 – Preview by Happy Runner

GO FOR IT! FTKLAA Cross Country 2018 – Preview by Happy Runner

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Editor’s Note

Running Blogger: Today, I attended the PRESS CONFERENCE of GO FOR IT! – FTKLAA Cross Country at Wisma OCM which was hosted by Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur Athletic Association (FTKLAA).

dav

This year marks the 4th EDITION of such collaboration between Title Sponsor Sports Toto & Event Organiser FTKLAA with the support of DBKL which will be held at Lake Gardens KL on 29th April 2018.

My Mission: Apart from my usual gathering of useful event information, I wanted to see firsthand how FTKLAA represented and presented their OWN running events to the public and how were they coping with the MODERN EVOLUTION of the running game. The running scenario has changed significantly over the past 5 years – for better and worse – and it is easy for outdated running associations and companies to be left far behind by the highly COMPETITIVE and commercial-minded MARKET LEADERS to the extent of virtual extinction.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Frequent Visitor: At the start of my running days (circa 2011), I visited the FTKLAA office almost every other week in order to manually register for the many exciting races promoted by FTKLAA to the point that their staff would immediately recognised and acknowledged me during their races. However, as the years passed, my visits to the FTKLAA office gradually ceased because of two main reasons. Firstly, because the numbers of FTKLAA sanctioned running events were rapidly diminishing since 2012. Secondly, like many other internet-savvy runners, I was increasingly drawn to the many new and glamorous running events being promoted online by newly emerging running event companies.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m Back: So, you could say that today’s PC was like coming home to the ROOTS of my passion for running since I will always appreciate and respect FTKLAA for ESTABLISHING and SUPPORTING the running industry which is thriving today.

Fast & Furious: Although, I give much credit to the new gung-ho running organisers for their creativity, invention and innovation, it is sad to see FTKLAA relegated to the second division of commercial running events nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, the important FTKLAA duties of spotting and developing our talented athletes still remains but I am convinced that FTKLAA should also play a Key Role in UPHOLDING THE STANDARDS of the modern, community-based running market. How? That’s a topic for another discussion.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ulterior Motive: Meantime, when I headed to today’s Press Conference, I was really looking for some positive signs that FTKLAA could once again be a main contender in the BUSTLING running arena. Was I disappointed, relieved or excited by my subsequent findings? Read on to FIND-OUT for yourself…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

👏 CONGRATULATIONS! Sports Toto, FTKLAA and Sponsors on the launch of their 4th Edition at OCM Sports Museum & Hall of Fame, Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat, 50150 KL on 29th January 2018.

Sports Toto is no stranger when it comes to their financial contribution to Malaysia Sports.

In fact, Sports Toto play a part in the development of national sports through substantial annual contributions to the National Sports Council.

⛹️🏃Moreover, at the community level, Sports Toto supports many reputable Sporting Events including Penang Bridge International Marathon, Sungai Petani Half Marathon, Ipoh Walk, Seremban Half Marathon, Kota Kinabalu Sutera Harbour 7k Charity Run, Kenny Rogers Roasters Chicken Run and Sports Toto High School Basketball Tournament.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

🏃🍃 IS THIS REAL CROSS COUNTRY?

Mr. Leo (President of FTKLAA) admitted that only 30% of the route can be considered cross country terrain such semi-forest, parks up and down slopes, concrete staircase, cordon off grass paths and running around the lake twice.

According to Datuk Vegiyathuman, when the first FTKLAA Cross Country took place in Tasik Perdana KL (now known as Taman Botani Tasik Perdana) 32 years ago, there were many huge trees and no jogging track which was suitable for cross country event. However, the landscape has changed since then, but for the convenient and central location of Lake Gardens, FTKLAA has stuck to this iconic and beautiful KL venue.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

DOES FTKLAA MATTER?

After listening to the enthusiasm for running in the voices of the FTKLAA leaders and their genuine intention to give ALL RUNNERS the best running experience with the help of the supportive Sponsors, I believe that FTKLAA deserve the support of the running community. Furthermore, I hope many more Event Organisers and Sponsors will start communicating and even collaborating more with our Running Custodian in order to jointly RAISE the standards of running events and thus, STRENGTHEN the fabric of our Running Base for future development of talents, as well as instill greater COMMUNITY SPIRIT among old, young, elite and weekend runners alike.

Some QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Q: What Happens If GE14 Falls On Race Day?
A: Vote after the run, but don’t wear our event Tee to polling booth! (Editor’s Comment: A refreshing run before voting will clear your mind!)

Q: Are Foreign Runners Welcomed?

A: Yes, if they have a PR Status. (Editor’s Comment: This is to prevent serial professional runners living abroad sweeping all top prizes.)

Q: Why only take in 2,000 participants?

A: This is to ensure, there is no overcrowding at the race venue and for safety along the route. (Editor’s Comment: With less runners, the Event Crew can focus better on delivering a QUALITY RUNNING EXPERIENCE.) 🏞️🏃🍃

BLUE SKIES AHEAD

With running events becoming more profit-centred and more gimmicky, the time is right for FTKLAA to take up the middle ground and lift up those running events which are below par, as well as reign in those mega ones who have neglected the IMPORTANT Basic Needs of Runners in chasing for maximum profit$.

It is great to see FTKLAA making huge efforts in trying to update themselves and stay in touch with the major shifts in the modern spoken rules of the local running game.

SOCIAL MEDIA ACKNOWLEDGED

Being a Running Blogger, I was deeply encouraged by Datuk Vegiyathuman statement, “We have to thank and take note of the running bloggers CRITIQUE of running events which have significantly helped RAISE the standard of running events today”….
