Hari Sukan Negara Malaysia FITPOSSIBLE 2018
Editor’s Note
BACK STORY : Hari Sukan Negara was launched on 10th October 2015, and I can still remember the huge buzz surrounding that inaugural weekend on which the whole nation was encouraged to take part in any sport activities to encourage Malaysians to get fitter. Furthermore, from 2015 to 2017, the Sports Ministry had organised the popular FITMALAYSIA ROADSHOW which was a series of mass-participation cycling & running events which were held in a different state every month.
These events were funded by the Sports Ministry (KBS), and they were well organised and free-of-charge for the public. Not surprising, those events drew a maximum crowd in every state, because the public was given the opportunity to cycle or run along well marshalled routes in their respective state, and every proud finisher were presented with customised medals, as well as light refreshments. In addition, there would be a sports carnival & lucky draws to entertain the cheerful crowd. Of course, paying for yearlong HSN events was not cheap, but the taxpayers felt it was money well spent because the public was benefiting directly from Government expenditure, and not to mention, the consequent POSITIVE physical & social impact on the nation.
NEW ERA : Under the stewardship of the new Sports Minister, Dato’ Syed Saddiq, the HSN Malaysia 2018 wasn’t celebrated in its usual grandiose manner. However, the young & new Sports Minister had supported the efforts of a virtual running organiser, BiiB, to encourage runners to burn 5 million calories in 5 days by runners uploading their mileage unto the BiiB Apps ( https://getbiib.com ) which would automatically accumulate the total running mileage & convert the figures to total calories burnt. The project was called HSN Malaysia FITPOSSIBLE 2018.
Happy Runner was invited to both their opening & closing ceremonies which were held on 30th September 2018 & 5th January 2019 respectively.
