🏝️🚴 Avillion Cultural Ride 2018 – Preview by Gus Rider
There is no better way to appreciate our BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT and SPECTACULAR COUNTRYSIDE than on TWO WHEELS! That’s why I’m eagerly looking forward to join the Avillion Cultural Ride 2018 (ACR 2018) again, and at the same time, I can sneak-in a short HOLIDAY GETAWAY with family and friends.
For those of you who missed out on last year’s ACR 2017 and for some of you who are thinking about joining ACR 2018, I have penned my personal HIGHLIGHTS of ACR 2017 (including my video flashbacks), plus my PREVIEW and EXPECTATIONS for the upcoming ACR 2018.
Last year, I had the GOOD FORTUNE to complete the 160km category of the Avillion Coastal Ride 2017 on my Elliptigo bicycle. It was thrilling to cross the Negeri Sembilan-Malacca borders twice in one day on a new route full of contrasting and varied scenes from everyday Malaysia Life.
WHEREVER I rode, there were curious onlookers, bemused bystanders and startled shopkeepers SMILING and chuckling as they tried to make sense of my never-been-seen-before Elliptigo bike. It felt good to be able to spread some GOOD vibes and HAPPY smiles among the local communities, and often, the cheerful people and beautiful scenery made me forget the aches and strains of this endurance ride.
As I was riding alone on a new & deserted highway back to Port Dickson, a police patrol car slowed down next to me. Being in an unfamiliar place, I was quite nervous. To my great relief, the two policemen were only curious to find-out more about my Elliptigo bike.
“The policemen cheerfully asked me, “Is this a bike?”, “Where did you get it?”, “How much does it cost?”.
I’m sure that this is the first time that any cyclist has been interrogated by the police, while riding on a century ride!
Last year, the Avillion Coastal Ride took place on 17 September 2017 when a total of 1,600 riders participated in the endurance distances of 160KM or 90KM, and in the 25KM Fun Ride.
For ACR 2018, the ENDURANCE distance remains at 160KM, but the SCENIC and fun rides have been shortened to 62KM & 30KM respectively. The current categories will cater to Endurance & Fun Riders, as well as to the riders who want to admire the scenery as much as possible without having to expend too much energy.
It’s apt to change the name to AVILLION CULTURAL RIDE instead of Avillion ‘Coastal’ Ride because, apart from the beautiful coastal roads, there is so MUCH MORE to see & appreciate on these routes with the ever changing backdrop of beaches, padi fields, villages and small towns. Indeed, Avillion Cultural Ride will showcase the NATURAL & CULTURAL SPLENDOURS of Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.
