The LAUNCH Of GCE Duathlon 2018 & PRESS CONFERENCE was held at KL Gateway Mall on 9th August 2018.
The launch was organised by GCE Duathlon 2018 Co-Organisers PROLINTAS & GoSportz, and the main guest speakers were Dato’ Mohammad Azlan Abdullah, Group Chief Executive Officer, PROLINTAS, and Mr Albertt Leong, Race Director of GoSportz.
This is the FIRST TIME ever for PROLINTAS to fully close Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE) for a sporting event, and many athletes in the cycling, running and triathlon communities are excited to be the FIRST BATCH and test their physical strength and endurance on this magnificent highway route on the auspicious Malaysia Day.
Fortunately, PROLINTAS has partnered with GoSportz, for this inaugural GCE Duathlon 2018, who will bring onboard the technical expertise required to effectively execute a great race for all the participants. In particular, GoSportz has been the organiser of the popular Lekas Highway Ride for the past 5 years; a premier night cycling extravaganza on another fully closed highway which has steadily grown to 5,000 riders in 2018. With such an impressive track record for managing high profile sports events, and with the support of key event partners, we can expect another SMASH HIT by GoSportz & Friends.
With many concerns about public ROAD SAFETY for cyclists and runners, it is wonderful that more and more Highway Concessionaires & Owners are recognising the popularity of mass participation sports and closing their respective highways to hold such sporting events without any presence of motorised vehicles, even at the expense of foregoing their lucrative toll collection revenue on race day….

GCE DUATHLON 2018 – MALAYSIA’S FIRST DUATHLON ON A HIGHWAY
Kuala Lumpur, 9 August 2018 – PROLINTAS Group of Companies will be organising Malaysia’s first duathlon on a highway on 6 September 2018 at the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), in conjunction with the upcoming Malaysia Day celebrations.
Dato’ Mohammad Azlan Abdullah, Group Chief Executive Officer, PROLINTAS said, “the GCE Duathlon 2018 is PROLINTAS’ first large-scale sporting event and we welcome athletes, cycling and running enthusiasts locally and internationally to be part of this event.”
The GCE Duathlon 2018 is expected to attract a participation of 1,000 to 1,500 runners and cyclists comprising of all age groups and levels of competencies.
The event’s run-bike-run race format will take participants along and around the GCE route. GCE will be fully closed to all highway users from 3.00 am to 2.00 pm on the event day.
GoSportz, the race organiser, is excited to work with PROLINTAS Group of Companies and hopes that the unique race, gaining immense popularity among athletes and newbies, will inspire more people to take up an active and healthy lifestyle.
“Anyone – professionals, amateurs or just-for-fun participants can be part of this race and be the first group of racers to conquer GCE,” said Albert Leong, Race Director.
The GCE Duathlon 2018 has three race categories and one fun ride activity. The GCE Full Duathlon (10km Run, 60km Bike, 10km Run) and the GCE Dash Duathlon (5km Run, 27km Bike, 5km Run) is open to men and women aged 16 and above. The categories are divided into gender groups and three to four age groups. The Team Relay (10km Run, 60km Bike, 10km Run) is divided into Men and Mixed relays comprising of three participants aged 16 and above per team.
A Fun Ride (36km Bike) will also be organised for those aged 16 and above looking to just take a ride around GCE.
Participation fees per participant or team are RM250 for the GCE Full Duathlon, RM220 for the GCE Dash Duathlon, RM540 for the GCE Team Relay and RM50 for the Fun
Ride.
“We like to take this opportunity to announce that a portion of the registration proceeds will go towards a good cause of which MERCY Malaysia has been identified as our
charity partner this year,” adds Dato’ Mohammad Azlan.
Registrations are now open until 19 August 2018 (Sunday). All participants will receive a race pack with the event t-shirt, goodie bag, timing chip and others. Race pack collection
