Editor’s Note
Welcome to the inaugural Shine Resolution Run 2017!
Originally, this event was supposed to be held at Bukit Kiara, but it was switched to the more popular, Padang Merbok because the Organiser claimed that due to more than expected number of registrants, they needed a bigger venue.
Whatever the case, it was my second event at iconic Padang Merbok in 2017, and we’re still only in January! Thankfully, I can never get bored running around the pristine neighborhoods of Bukit Tunku and Kenny Hills. In today’s route, there was a series of testy steep inclines, but fortunately, the air was cooling, thanks to our early 6:20 AM flag-off.
Calming Serenity
It was a brilliant idea to flag-off this foot race early because this meant that we could finish it before the Sun got uncomfortably hot, and there were very few road users around to bother us. Only the collective sounds of our shuffling feet and hurried breathing had broken the stillness of that gorgeous morning.
The peaceful ambiance of the exclusive neighborhood of Bukit Tunku and Kenny Hills made it easy to focus on our run or perhaps, to contemplate on our personal New Year Resolution.
More Safety
There were many traffic police, road marshals and RELA personnel to safely guide us throughout the quiet route.
More Drinks
All 3 water stations were well stocked with iced cold water and 100Plus drinks to refresh the runners.
To give the weary runners an additional energy booster, there were premixed icy electrolytes drinks handed out by the lads at the N8 Sports Nutrition station, 2km from the finish.
Distance Markers & Checkpoints
Including the Start/Finish point, there were 3 timing checkpoints to keep the runners honest.
The distance markers every kilometre from half way point were surprisingly effective in spurring me on to the Finish Line.
Stylish Finish
The last kilometre was all downhill, and it was a comfortable cruise all the way to the Finish Line.
The final approach to the beautiful Finish Arch was very well designed and cordoned-off which gave every individual Finisher their outstanding moment of glory and personal satisfaction as they crossed the finish line with grace.
Snacks Galore
After receiving our Finisher medals, we were greeted with a wide assortment of popular refreshments and snacks which included freeflow cold isotonic and Milo drinks, Yakult, Nestle breakfast cereals, and hot mini servings of Mamee instant noodles.
For something more substantial, runners could purchase food and drinks from several available food trucks.
Judging by the many happy faces mingling after the run, the first ever Shine Resolution Run 2017 was a big hit among the crowd of seasoned and community runners.
The majority of them stayed behind until the end for the Lucky Draw, and to watch the presentation of prizes to the well-deserved podium winners.
I am sure that many of the participants will happily return next year for more exercise, good times and family entertainment if the good people of Sun Life Malaysia decides to host a promising sequel next year.
😍Thanks to my sponsor N8 Sports Nutrition for my invitation to be part of this exquisite event which attracted the best of local elite runners, and thousands of community runners too…
Charitable Act
The best news is that a whopping Rm257,000 was in donations were raised for Hope Worldwide and Diabetes Malaysia, from all the participants fees which was further matched dollar-for-dollar by Sun Life Malaysia. Hereafter, all the donors and everyone who were involved in making this successful event, can start the year in good health, and full of hope and compassion in their hearts!
