Training For OSIM Sundown Marathon Penang 2016
SUNDOWN TOUCHDOWN IN PENANG
Many avid and seasoned runners have high regards for the Sundown Marathon brand which never fails to draw-in the crowd of runners seeking thrilling running extravaganza.
To be able to experience Sundown Marathon on the enchanting Penang Island for the first time is an exciting prospect.
For Penang and Northern Runners, having this famous marathon in their backyard is a testament to the maturity of the local running community.
For the KL and Outstation Runners, this kind of trip gives the right excuse for a spot of “Runcation” in order to make the most of their trip by adding some sightseeing and food hunting activities to their travel plans.
Before we can enjoy the eating, the sightseeing and the race, it is vital that we prepare and train adequately beforehand.
🏃TRAIN FOR IT
On a weekly basis, I will cover about 50km distance and train 3-4 times which will also include some key speed drills and hill works.
In addition, I will do some resistance training to strengthen my muscles and legs, as well as frequent stretching routines.
🍉EAT FOR ENERGY
Two weeks before race day, I will cut down on meat dishes, and eat more variety of vegetables and fruits. Moreover, eating nutritiously means consuming less of processed, sugary and fried foods.
Closer to race day, I will avoid spicy or untested food, and I will drink 2-3 litres of water. I will save bingeing on my Penang favourite dishes until after the run is over.
🌔SATURDAY NIGHT
I am really looking forward to meeting up with my Penang running buddies and running along the idyllic coastal route. Hopefully, the night will welcome the marathoners with a timely cool sea breeze…
