Social Media Geeks

Following the success of Twitterthon in 2015, the folks at Malaysia Social Media Chambers (MSMC) are organising the second edition of their 5km Fun Run at Lake Gardens KL on 15th May 2016.

Wait a minute! Do you know who is Malaysia Social Media Chambers (MSMC)? They are a “Non-Profit Organisation dedicated to advancing and advocating the discipline of credible social media “. With so much cybercrime, hate & filth floating around on the internet, it is good to know that there are organisations like MSMC who represent what is good about the Internet.

Rewind Back To Twitterthon 2015: Mr Teo Cang Peng of MSMC explained, “In previous year, Twitterthon attracted almost 2k runners. The event highlights were our interactive stations by different companies like Petronas, Maybank, Utusan and many more. They have different kinds of interesting activities where the runners can enjoy and take selfie in order get their additional goodies after that. Feedback was good, it’s a new idea and different from the usual fun run or obstacles run.”

* Happy Runner’s Preview *

RUN. SNAP. SHARE. REPEAT.

In 2011, I started taking ‘selfie’ photos at running events as a way to record my Running adventures. Back then, none of my friends were taking selfies and smart phone technology was still at its infancy. In fact, my hand phone did not have internet connection.

Today, taking post race selfies with Medals have become a popular practice among runners. For me, it has become part of my Running ritual and with the help of social media, I can now share instantly my Running Selfies with my friends. Along the way, I am humbled by some runners who told me that I had inspired them to start running – wow! So, I never underestimate the Power of the Internet ever since.

YIng And Yang

Social Media and Running compliment each other very well. Social Media Platforms, especially FB, provide Runners with a convenient way to connect with one another, participate in discussion forums, and organise training sessions together. Thinking about it, we are so immersed in social media that sometimes, we do not even realise on how dependant we have become on the internet phenomena in our daily lives. Learning how to tap into the Power of the Internet to enhance our lives economically and socially is the key to a successful future in this Digital Age.
