Prior to registering for this inaugural 10km Ice-Watch Run, I had never heard of this watch brand from Belgium nor had I been inside Plaza Shah Alam. Admittedly, I am out-of-touch with reality when a subject matter is not part of my cycling and running world. So, I headed to this press conference determined to find-out more about the Event Title Sponsor, Ice Watch, and at the same, check-out Plaza Shah Alam for the first time.

The proceedings started with a short speech by Dato Sri Meer Habib, Managing Director of Time Zone Sdn Bhd who is the sole exclusive distributor of Ice Watch since April 2014. The Habib family name is synonymous with jewelry, but on that day, Meer Habib was dressed in an all-black sporty casual number in line with the topic of the inaugural Light Up The Night Run 2015 to be held on 5th December 2015. Meer Habib’s friendly smile and easy-manner when he addressed the press conference audience made us all feel at home.
“Currently, we have 12 Ice-Watch outlets in Peninsular Malaysia, and next month, we will be opening our first outlet in East Malaysia at Viva Mall, Kuching,” he proudly declared. Meer added later, “On race night, Plaza Shah Alam opening hours will be extended to 12 midnight. So the ladies can shop, while the men can eat at one of the many splendid eateries here, after the run.”
During the Question & Answer session, we clarified the following:-
This was the first time that the local authorities have allowed such a run to take place in that area.
One in every six participants will be given a free Ice Watch.
2,000 runners registered for the 5km run, and 1,500 runners will take part in the 10km run.
Top 5 Male & Female Runners for 10km will be given a trophy and Ice Watch worth RM699.
There will be ample parking spaces available in and around the race venue.
No, the sponsor will not be giving away Habib jewelry as part of prizes!

Next, we witnessed a ribbon-cutting which marked the official opening of Ice Watch latest gallery at the Ground Level of Plaza Shah Alam. The beautiful models and celebrities showed-off the chic and elegant watches as the media photographers fired their flashes. I was surprised by the wide range of different watch models available to suit any occasion. Furthermore, the numerous designs and colours meant that you could match the watches according to your specific lifestyle and personality. The designs range from classic to contemporary, and made to suit the socialite, as well as the sporting crowd. Every Ice Watch is backed with a 2-year warranty. When you wear an Ice-Watch, you won’t want to take it off in a hurry because it compliments you perfectly and the strap is very comfortable.

The founder of The Marathon Company (TMC) is Benz Malik who have been given the task to ensure that the inaugural Light Up The Night Run will be enjoyable, entertaining and safe for all participants. After the successful Run Stroller Run event which took place last week, this will be only the second concept run for The Marathon Company (TMC). Having witnessed the excellent co-operation between the sponsor and TMC, I have no doubt that this night run will live-up to its exciting billing, and it will brighten-up the Shah Alam streets with the help of 3,500 glow-stick-waving runners.

ICE-WATCH BECOMES TITLE SPONSOR OF FIRST “ICE-WATCH – LIGHT UP THE NIGHT RUN” IN MALAYSIA AND CELEBRATES OFFICIAL OPENING OF ITS GALLERY SHAH ALAM, Selangor. (November 25, 2015) – ICE-WATCH and The Marathon Company, today announced that ICE-WATCH has become the official title sponsor of the first-ever night run called “ICE-WATCH – LIGHT UP THE NIGHT RUN”. The funky Belgium brand of watches have teamed up for the town’s first night running event, which will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 which takes off and ends from the iconic Plaza Shah Alam. The race will include 5KM & 10KM routes around the town.
As title sponsor of the race, ICE-WATCH will have a prominent presence. Additionally, the venue sponsor, Plaza Shah Alam will provide ample & fantastic F&B and shopping options to the participants prior and after the race with extended hours until 12 midnight. Ultron will outfit T-shirts for all runners. A one-of-kind Finisher medals are also the highlight for participants joining this race playing on ICE-WATCH bright colours. Among other sponsors include Habib, Rocktape, Redbull and Revive Isotonic drinks. The event will also feature media partners with Running Magazine and Maskulin Magazine with Liv3ly being the Digital Partner.

The registration receive fantastic responses from new and avid runners alike which has drawn 3,500 participants! Despite prior weather issues with regards to the haze in the recent month or so, this is considered a great success. ICE-WATCH will also gift every 6th registered participant of the race with an exclusive timepiece worth RM379 each. There will also be timepieces worth RM699 each for the Top 5 Male & Top 5 Female runners from the 10 KM competitive category.
Today also marks the Official Opening of ICE-WATCH’s gallery in Plaza Shah Alam and was graced by the first and currently the only Ultraman of Malaysia, finisher of the gruelling Ultraman Canada, Kannan Murugasan with local celebrities Tash Yong, Zewl Hilmi, Nazrief Nazri and Faye Kusairi.
The outlet is the first to showcase its latest novelty of timepieces called Ice City. The design combines a subtle and modern design with an ultra-slim steel case and a clean, pared-down dial. The models in the line have a leather wristband that works beautifully with any style. Each model is delivered with a free additional nylon strap. A modern take on tradition for this elegant watch, which comes in two sizes (36mm and 41mm).
ICE-WATCH has also enhanced its ICE collections with the Ice Chic, with fashion-forward gold or iridescent pink dial. The subtle gold reflects the light, shining brightly, lending some its delicate sparkle to the women who wear it.
