Weekly Blind Tandem Ride

Training Session No.4

BBT’s (Blind Empowerment Society of Selangor Blind Team) 4th training session at Subang Jaya (SS14) was attended by Eddy, Jeffrey, Siow Ling & Evon. Steven was still away in Korea, and Maryati was unwell.

Since Jeffrey was nursing a bad back, I paired off with blind pillion Siow Ling on the Iron Lady, while Eddy was happy to show first-timer, Evon, the ropes on the Black Horse.

Siow Ling & I had a good workout, climbing a long 300m ascent without stopping. Evon did exceptionally well at her first-try navigating a blind cyclist, and at the same time, she received cycling tips from coach Eddy.

After two loops around the neighbourhood, both tandems headed back to our base at HTCC bicycle shop. There, Eddy coached us on how to start and stop properly on the tandem.

 How Are We Progressing?

Personally, I feel more confident riding the tandem now, after learning the right techniques to start and stop. A few weeks ago, my movements were hesitant and shaky at times. Now, under Eddy’s practical guidance, I can ride smoothly and I feel more relaxed in handling the two-seater.

Glad to see that our team is progressing well in our training, and I am certain that we will be adequately prepared for our first official outing at Cycle Asia KL on 14th June 2015 when all our 3 teams will participate in The Challenge (48km) category.

As always, we ended our training with some group photos to mark the occasion. Thank you to Jeffrey & Evon for providing the great snapshots.

Friendship Ride
We want to promote cycling for the blind not as an exclusive activity, but rather, as an inclusive activity where everyone can ride side-by-side without restrictions. So, if you are free on Saturdays (4-6pm), join us & experience riding a tandem bicycle, or bring your own bicycle (any type) even, and ride along with us.
