Malaysia’s darling SCKLM2015 is being officially launched on Monday 18th May 2015. Last year the registration was launched by the debonair Minister of Sports, KJ himself who had opted for the 10km speed category. Who will the VIPs to grace this event this time? I know that it will not be a certain politician who is too busy “struggling” to serve the people because it is really hard to decide to take the private jet or opt for the mediocrity of a rushing motorcade. Besides, his spin doctor has advised him that running is not good for his heart.
Indeed, our gallant event organiser has finally woken-up from their six months hibernation, and gearing-up to top their last year’s successful performance. The pressure is on their Swiss boss, Mr. Rainer to yet again lead 35,000 expected participants to the promise land of running bliss. I think, Rainer will admit that the uncertainty of a new running route will no longer keep him up, but rather, this proud father’s sleeping schedule in the months prior to D-day will be dictated by his newborn infant – c’est la vie!
I predict Mr. Rainer will have some new and pleasant surprises hidden up his sleeves for the benefit of the participating full marathoners in this year’s KL Marathon. There are also many questions on the running community’s minds which needs to be addressed before the Big Day in October, such as, “Will GST be added to the registration fee?” “Who will be the elite runners to grace this event?” “Will a record be broken, on or off the course?” “Will cheering squads be allowed on the highways?” “Will the prize money increase?” Will the quota for FM increase, and will the number of 10km runners reduce?” “Will the Putrajaya Night Marathon be held one week before SCKLM 2015?” My personal favourite is, “Will Happy Runner be 5.5 hour pacer?” Yours truly will be faithfully reporting live from Standard Chartered HQ on 18the May to instantly capture all the drama as it unfolds, no holds barred.
