Super Run 2015 & Carnival
THE PERFECT WEEKEND
How nice is it when a weekend is neatly sandwiched between two Public Holidays, and all of us can have 4 glorious days, Friday to Monday, off? Some of my running buddies have flown to KK for Borneo Marathon. Furthermore, looking at the mass exodus on all the major highways, I can see many of you, just cannot wait to leave this city in haste! Of course, it does help that payday was just a couple of days ago. Amazingly, the unpopular introduction of GST does not appear to have slowed-down the public’s insatiable demand for a traveling holidays. I can almost hear all the travel agencies and resort owners breathe a collectively sigh of relief!
HOLDING THE FORT
For the rest of us, we are content to remain in the resulting quieter Kuala Lumpur where the road traffic status has been duly transformed from “manic” to “bearable”. As usual, the foreign labourers will take advantage of these long Public Holidays to emerge from their dingy sweat shops and invade the city centre. Just the other day, I joked to my wife, “You will not find one Malaysian riding on the free KL Hop public buses.” I guess when they are being paid below the minimum wage, a free bus ride is an offer too good to refuse.
FAMILY CARNIVAL SUNDAY
A DRUMSTICK BREAKFAST
“Will you provide any food for the runners?”, I asked anxiously.
“After the finish line, the runners will be given a light meal of bun and ice-cream,” declared Mauzan.
Suddenly, my friend, Allan’s eyes popped wide open at the first mention of ice-cream, and he jibed, “Will we be able to have more than one ice-cream?”
“Allan, are you willing to deprive a kid of his fair share of ice-cream?”, I interjected. It was a rhetorical question because I knew too well that when it came to ice-cream, it was each man to his own! Even my wife was jolted to attention as she announced, “Wow, you have ice-cream! Now, I wished I had registered for this run!”
“How many water stations will there be along the 10km?”, I quickly asked, hoping to steer the conversation away from the subject of ice-cream.
“There will be 5 water stations including one at the finish line. Towards the latter part of the route, 100 Plus will be provided as well. Allan, I hope that you will not be too bloated to finish the race.” At this point, all our eyes were staring accusingly at Allan who was guiltily imagining himself sloshing to the finish line.
CAR PARK C
“Remember to park at Car Park C not A because the latter will be occupied by participants from another event which will be taking place simultaneously at National Stadium Bukit Jalil on that very morning,” warned Mauzan.
“Won’t there be any confusion then?”, I questioned.
“Our route is totally different from theirs. We also request all the 10k runners to wear the white event Tee so that it would be easier for the race officials, marshals and volunteers to spot them.”
“What safety measures will you employ?”, I asked.
“We will have marshals stationed at all the intersections. All of the volunteers along the route will be runners themselves and so, they will understand the needs of the runners. In addition, there will be traffic police and several marshals on motorbikes deployed,” explained Mauzan.
“What advice or tips do you have for the runners?”, I probed.
“The night before, drink lots of water and get enough sleep. Also, it is advisable to arrive early to locate a parking spot. Enjoy the run, and stay around for the Lucky Draw,” he recommended.
