KUANTAN HALF MARATHON 2015 PREVIEW
Interrogation Time: With so many new running events popping-up recently, it can be confusing for runners to choose which new races are worthy of your time, money & effort. It is always advisable to do a background check on the rac
e organiser in order to find-out if they have the experience and resource to successfully pull-off an enjoyable run. To help you make your decision easier, I am embarking on a personal mission to interview certain willing race organisers and interrogate them about their upcoming running events. In particular, the burning questions are what are their objectives and how do they plan to meet such objectives, plus what is in it for the participants.
Down & Dirty With Dusty Monkeys: For my first interview, I spoke to Delon, Founder & CEO of Dusty Monkeys, who are staging their second Kuantan Half Marathon after their debut last year. Delon gives his take on what runners can expect during this relatively new HM & he even gives us his recommendations on hotels & home stays for those runners coming from outstation.
Interviewee Delon:-
1) What was the total number of participants in 2014 & what is the limit for 2015?
We had more than 2000 participants who had signed up for our last year event in 2014. But this time we are looking to target 3000 participants coming from all around Malaysia and our neighbor countries as well.
2) What is the purpose of organising this run? Give me your reasons why runners should register?
There hasn’t been any half-marathon going for more than 20 years until our first Half-Marathon which was on last year. We are trying to promote our beautiful hometown Kuantan as a yearly event of Half-Marathon for the runners because I personally think that Kuantan always have a better view, air quality, beaches, mountains and forest compare to KL. We do believe the quality of the event is as important as running vest & medal’s design and thus we always making sure that ours race kit is always awesome looking!
3) What will be the event highlights & attractions for KHM 2015? Are there any new features or improvements this year?
We have selected a Red Blood colour for our Official Vest this year with our unique featured strips at the back of the design where we had received a lot of good response from the participants last year. On this year, not only the 21KM categories will be having the timing chip system but also to the 10KM categories as well. Not only the race kit that we are improving but in the race route as well. However we are going to prepare a “refresh zone” for the runners to get themselves “refresh” at a certain point of distance.
4) What message do you want to relay to the participants?
For the runners who haven’t been participate in any running events in Kuantan, you should give yourself a chance to experience a none like any other races compare to KL and to visit such a beautiful place with your family.
Delon’s Lodging Recommendations:
M.S. Garden (Official Hotel for KHM) : RM263.00 (Special Rate for KHM participants only)
Megaview Hotel : RM120.69
Alur Akar Homestay : RM60.00
Pan Homestay : RM45.00
