Last year, I was fortunate to receive an invitation by Bermaz Motors for their inaugural cycling event entitled “Ride With The Legends”. At that time, we started our ride at the Bermaz Motors showroom in Glenmarie, Shah Alam, and we cycled to Bukit Gasing and back for a total distance of 35km. It was such an honour to be able to ride along some of Malaysian’s cycling legends who represented our country in the Olympics & Asian Games in the late 60’s & 70’s.
This year’s Mazda Fun Ride took place at their new Setia Alam showroom. The distance was only 19km, and the roads were larger, smoother and there was not many vehicles on a Sunday morning. Furthermore, the beautiful housing area provided a wonderful backdrop which made the ride thoroughly enjoyable.

When my wife & I arrived at the scene at 7am, we had to register to receive our exclusive Mazda cycling jersey. A hot breakfast buffet was provided for the 150 participants. At 7:30am, the event co-ordinator, David Senior, addressed the crowd using his loud hailer. He introduced the key members of his organising team, and David Snr. gave us a quick briefing on the Dos & Don’ts of our ride, and on the proper hand signals for cyclists.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/e73/17965654/files/2014/12/img_09411.jpg At approximately 8am, the riders were flagged-off and we followed behind the lead safety car. There was an ambulance & traffic police present to ensure riders’s safety was well managed. At the halfway point, we stopped for a drink and to regroup. Soon after, we headed back to the finishing line where we checked-out to receive our door gifts. Then, our master-of-ceremony, David Chan, presented the lucky draw prizes of mugs, tumblers, caps, passport holders, vouchers for Starbucks & Kenny Rogers Chicken, and the grand prize was a made-in-Italy cycling helmet sponsored by BETA Tools. Afterwards, buffet lunch of fried chicken, sweet and sour fish, stir-fried vegetables, salad, fried rice and fresh fruits was served to cap-off a wonderful morning. Several Mazda staff test rode my ElliptiGo bicycle because they were curious to find-out how to balance and ride it standing-up. All managed to ride without falling. Their gleeful faces looked like kids who learnt to ride a bike for the first time.
Thank you to Rebecca Chee (Rebcomaz Auto Sdn Bhd), David Chan (Bermaz Motors Sdn Bhd), and their helpful crew of marshals and volunteers for a truly enjoyable Fun Ride.
